Hold a seat

Refunds and cancellations

Last updated

The short version: we do not take your money until the dinner is definitely going ahead, and if it does not go ahead you are not charged.

Nothing is charged when you book. We place an authorisation hold on your card. The money stays in your account and is not ours. We only take the A$29 once four people have booked the same night, which is the point the dinner becomes certain.

When you are not charged at all

An authorisation hold is released by your bank, not by us. Most banks clear it within a few business days once released.

Once you have been charged

What happensWhat you get
Fewer than four people actually sit down on the night Full refund. Automatic. You do not have to ask.
We cancel the night — too few bookings at the cut-off, a venue failure with no replacement, or a safety issue Full credit towards your next dinner, applied automatically. A cash refund instead, on request.
You felt unsafe at a dinner Full cash refund, no argument and no form. Email support and it is paid within five business days.
You cancel before the cut-off (three hours before the sitting) Credit carried forward to your next dinner. The seat reopens for someone else.
You do not come, and did not cancel before the cut-off No refund. See below.
You are removed under our conduct rules No refund for a dinner already attended.

Why a no-show is not refunded

Five other people arranged their evening around a table of a particular size. An empty chair is the single thing most likely to make a dinner go badly, and a seat that can be abandoned for free is a seat people abandon. The charge is what makes the table reliable.

If something genuinely went wrong on the night, email us anyway. We would rather hear it than have you quietly never come back.

What the A$29 buys, and what it does not

It buys the seat: finding the other people, choosing and briefing the restaurant, making the booking, and seating the table.

It is not the cost of dinner. You order what you like and settle your own bill directly with the restaurant on the night, exactly as you would on any other evening out. We are not part of that transaction and we cannot refund it.

How to ask

Email from the address you booked with. A person replies within two business days. Approved cash refunds are paid to the original card within five business days.
