This is a product people use because they want to meet someone, which is a quietly personal thing to admit. We treat the data accordingly.
Three things we will never do. We will never sell your data. We will never show anyone your answer to the question we ask after a dinner. We will never publish, quote or show a photograph of anyone at a table.
Who is responsible
Keptable is a registered Australian business operating in . We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Our full registered details are available on request at .
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your first name | So the restaurant and the table know who is coming. |
| Email address | To send you the restaurant, the time and your receipt. |
| Mobile number (optional) | Only for a message on the day of a dinner. |
| Your zone | So we seat you somewhere you can walk to. |
| Payment confirmation | Whether a payment succeeded, and the last four digits of the card. |
| Which dinners you attended | To seat later nights, and to know who was at a table if something goes wrong. |
| Your answer to "would you sit with them again?" | Seating only. See below. |
| Anything you tell support | To answer you. |
We do not collect or store your card number. Payments are handled by Stripe, who process the card directly. We receive only the result and the last four digits.
We do not ask for your date of birth, your photograph, your job, your relationship status, your religion or your politics, and we do not want them.
The answer you give after a dinner
The morning after a dinner we ask, for each person at your table, whether you would sit with them again.
- Your answer is never shown to that person. Not directly, not as a count, not as a hint, not ever.
- It is not shown to anyone else either, and it is not published in any aggregate that could identify you.
- It is used for exactly one thing: when we seat a later night, we prefer to put people together who both said yes — and only if both have already booked that night themselves.
- Nobody is told they were chosen, and nobody is told they were not.
Who we share it with
- The restaurant gets a first name and a headcount. Nothing else.
- People at your table see your first name, because you are sitting opposite them. After a dinner, people who shared your table can message you in the app unless you turn that off, which you can do at any time.
- Stripe processes payments.
- Email and messaging providers deliver what we send you.
- Police or a regulator, if the law requires it, or if someone's safety is at risk.
That is the entire list. We do not sell, rent, trade or share your information with advertisers, data brokers or anyone else.
Where it is stored
Data is stored on servers in Australia. Some of the providers above are based overseas and may process data outside Australia; where that happens we use providers that commit to equivalent protections.
How long we keep it
- Your account: until you delete it.
- Payment records: seven years, because Australian tax law requires it.
- Your post-dinner answers: deleted with your account.
- Safety reports: kept as long as needed to keep other members safe, even after an account is deleted.
